Ginosko Development Company
Background
We are pleased to share this short profile of Amin Irving, president and CEO of the Ginosko Development Company.
Amin Irving is driven to help catalyze vibrant, socio-economically diverse neighborhoods in Michigan through housing development. He attributes his passion, in part, to his experiences while growing up in Detroit. Irving became homeless at nine years old while his mother transitioned between jobs and, for a while, lived in a run-down motel. As Irving recalls, “The amount of struggle we dealt with just to pay the rent brought serious pressure to not only my mother, but myself.
Knowing that I am helping to alleviate that kind of pain, not only in the parent, but also in the child is what motivates me.” Irving became attracted to real estate development at 18 after his mother’s passing when he found himself in difficult negotiations over the sale of her home. “The broker thought that I should sell the house for $20,000 less than what I thought it could be sold for, and the house ended up being sold at my suggested price within two weeks,” said Irving, “That sparked my real estate drive.”
Relationship with AHLF
Ginosko Development is the recipient of a conditional award from the Affordable Housing Leverage Fund for a development at 7850 E. Jefferson, two 75-unit new construction projects with all units renting at levels affordable to 60% of the area median income or below.
AHLF single-handedly transformed this dream into a viable reality,” said Irving, “What is great about AHLF is that it helps make other capital sources more efficient. Not only does AHLF reduce the cost of capital for this deal, but it has an indirect effect of expanding the quantity and quality of affordable housing throughout the City of Detroit, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
